Students in the Kinesiology Majors cohort were given this assignment: Identify a topic within the broad area of Physical Health & Fitness and ask a specific question that you would like to answer. This slideshow presents their answer.
“We created this video, ‘Beating the Odds in College,’ to give an insight into the lives of first generation college students, that is, students who are the first in their family to go to a college, emphasizing the financial issues they face and how they are trying to pay for their education at CSUN.”
“The student-professionals in UNIV 100 #16695 responded to two prompts—‘How have my values changed since I’ve been at CSUN?’ and ‘How have I built my education?’ The former is a response to a recurring theme from President Koester, and the latter is a theme articulated by Provost Hellenbrand this semester.
“This UNIV 100 course is linked with a COMP SCI 100 course, so the student-professionals used the medium of Powerpoint.”

The class chose to explore various aspects of food and first-time college freshmen. Newly independent, living in the dorms or commuting, new university students are learning to make healthy food choices on a budget. This slide shows student responses to questions about why they sometimes choose fast food over healthy food.
Oceanic garbage is killing marine life, and the poisons from all this plastic refuse are now reaching us. The purpose of this project is to depict the enormous amount of damage being caused by the simple act of littering.
“We created this PSA for the Latino/a community to make them are aware about bilingual education and the benefits for them. The purpose was to support bilingual education in order to advance in the economic crisis we are in. This PSA shows the positive outcome in supporting bilingual education.”

Visible along the glass windows behind these two seated UNIV 100 faculty members is a large, fan-fold-style glass castle made up of poster boards depicting students’ personal stories of success and resilience inspired by The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls’s memoir.
